David W. Warfield
David has over twenty years experience in Hollywood as a writer, producer, director, teacher and consultant. He was a Producing Fellow at the American Film Institute and holds an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA. He has been a member of the Writer’s Guild of America, West, since 1990. He wrote and directed the indie feature film ROWS, which is set for release September 29, 2015.
David has sold spec scripts and pitches, written original scripts and adaptations, and performed re-writes and assignments for major studios. As screenwriter, his produced theatrical feature credits include: Rows (2015) Linewatch, (2008) Sony Pictures Entertainment, Kill Me Again, MGM; Private Investigations, MGM; Kiss of a Killer, ABC; Ocean Park, Echelon Entertainment (2002). Studio feature assignments include Age of Consent, RKO (2003); Mara, Warner Bros/Spring Creek; Medal of Honor, PolyGram; Town Without Pity, Warner Bros; and Woman in the Window, MGM.
TEACHING & CONSULTING
In 2001, David served as Advisor for the Sundance Institute Eastern European Screenwriters Lab in Prague, Chezk Republic, where he consulted on feature scripts by Polish, Hungarian and Chezk writers. David taught beginning and advanced screenwriting for graduate and undergraduate students at the Loyola Marymount University film school in Los Angeles, where he developed a specialized Graduate class in Screenwriting for Animated Features (2003-2006. At UCLA he taught beginning and advanced screenwriting through the Extension program, and developed a Graduate-level course, Crafting the Thriller (2003-2006). On the East coast, David has taught writing and filmmaking classes at Dickinson College, University of Maryland (BC), and Loyola University, and is currently a professor of Cinematic Arts & Science at Morgan State University. As a story consultant, David has analyzed hundreds of screenplays, treatments and pitches. Clients have ranged from students to pros, to “A-List” writers and directors.
PRODUCING and DIRECTING
David’s work as a producer and director gives him a broad perspective on writing that is key to creating real-world, marketable scripts. With A. Keith Weiner he co-produced the indie feature ROWS. He was both writer and co-producer on Linewatch (Sony Pictures Entertainment, 2008). He produced the feature Kill Me Again (MGM), starring Val Kilmer and Michael Madsen, and directed by John Dahl. He Produced and Directed Ocean Park (Echelon Entertainment).
Building on his background as an Assistant Director and Line Producer, David served as Vice President in Charge of Production at Propaganda Films, Hollywood, where he was responsible for the production of scores of music videos and commercials. This work led to collaborations with a number of distinctive directors, including David Fincher (Fight Club) and Dom Sena (Gone in Sixty Seconds). David was Associate Producer and Assistant Director on the short film, The Cowboy and the Frenchman, directed by David Lynch.
As a Second Unit Director and advisor, David worked on Everything That Rises, directed by Dennis Quaid, TNT, 1998; and a special karaoke sequence for I Am Sam, directed by Jessie Nelson, New Line, 2001. David has worked in the cable-documentary market as Writer/ Producer/ Director for the History Channel series, Deep Sea Detectives.
